Self-nominations are encouraged for recent innovations born and raised in Butte, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo & Yuba counties.
The INNOVATION AWARDS program recognizes the area’s vibrant innovation community—from emerging to established companies—and their breakthrough creations. Submissions undergo a strict evaluation process by peers and leaders from the Capital Region’s business, civic and academic sectors. Recent innovations are judged on novelty, market need, economic impact and disruption.

Garner Products Export Achievement Award
SVMI member, Garner Products, the leading U.S. manufacturer of storage media erasure and destruction equipment, was recognized with a congressional certificate of recognition from Congressman Tom McClintock and the Export Achievement Certificate from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service. The certificate was presented at the Northern California World Trade Association’s annual conference on May 24, 2018, in recognition of Garner Products’ expanded international presence.
The Export Achievement Certificate recognizes small to mid-sized businesses that have successfully entered international markets or extended into new markets. Garner Products now exports equipment to over 50 countries with distributorships in 6 countries. Over the past eight years, the company has doubled its gross revenue and increased international sales by over 300 percent.
The Northern California World Trade Center and the U.S. Commercial Service Sacramento office nominated garner Products for both certificates.

On May 23, 2018, SVMI member, Harris & Bruno International was awarded a U.S. Dept of Commerce Export Achievement Certificate by the Honorable Dale Tasharski, acting director general of the U.S. Dept of Commerce. The award was presented at a forum hosted by the California Chamber of Commerce highlighting U.S. trade policy and issues. Mr. Tasharski directs the department’s efforts to formulate trade policy and solve market access issues facing U.S. firms seeking to sustain and expand their business operations.

Educators joined Harris & Bruno in May for a manufacturing plant tour to check out the operations, machinery, and get a better understanding of what type of careers are available in manufacturing. Along with a plant tour, educators met at Harris & Bruno to address the challenges in finding skilled workers and how SVMI plans to close this gap.
